Describing Your Listing and Getting Started With Video for Real Estate

by the mls writer | your real estate copywriting team
A two-story house The MLS Writer wrote the real estate listing description for.

Now I'm not a REALTOR (but I was for 5 minutes in 2013). However, I really wish all working real estate agents took this stuff a little more seriously…

Tom Ferry is a total genius when it comes to real estate marketing, and what he’s been saying over and over again (for over a decade now!), is to get on video.

Are you on video yet for real estate?

Even though I’m just a real estate copywriter to help agents write MLS descriptions and better marketing content, I feel video could be very helpful for my business, too - and I don't have a fraction of the amount of content I can show as if I were a REALTOR!

Think of all the things you can show online as a real estate agent…

  • various local neighborhoods

  • open houses and other listings

  • caravan

  • interviews with existing clients and local businesses

  • interviews with people coming to your open house

The list of content ideas for real estate is endless!

Tom Ferry shared so many great ideas and examples for real estate agents to start making videos, how to get over your fears and "limiting beliefs."

Limiting beliefs are one of the major factors that hold REALTORS back from getting on video. Time and lack of tech knowledge are probably part of it too, but there's so much info online to help REALTORS get started.

Once you're past your limiting beliefs, the rest will fall into place with a little bit of help and research.

So WHEN you do get started on video or want to improve the content you already have, please be mindful of what you say and write about real estate.

Not all copywriters know the real estate lingo.

Consider hiring a professional copywriter for real estate to not only write your property listing descriptions, but also your blog articles, email campaigns, social media captions, and more.

Your real estate copywriter is your grammar police!

Everything from the choice of words, grammar, spelling, punctuation (if you’re writing) - comes into play.

Not to put more pressure on you, but I am a real estate copywriter after all, and I can tell you people will be judging what you write online.

From little typos when you describe a listing, to bad or confusing grammar when you write your MLS description and post it online, to silly misspellings that auto-correct doesn't find (or "corrects" lol).

Proofread your real estate writing - always.

Get a second set of sharp eyes to review all of your written content. Let us know if you want professional proofreading services specializing in real estate to read marketing content or property description.

All this plays a HUGE role in your professionalism, knowledge, reputation, credibility, and overall likability.

These elements and so much more are needed to grow your business because it gives your potential clients more confidence in your credibility.

So take extra care in what you say and write about real estate.

Look at videos online to get inspiration and get a second opinion.

Think of a theme for your video and branding - colors you like, a "mood." Don't get too hung up on it...you can always change or tweak it later!

Even though we specialize in writing about homes, property listing descriptions, and other content for real estate, we're all on the same boat when it comes to real estate marketing.

We at The MLS Writer have to be mindful of all these things too when it comes to marketing online and attracting our ideal clients.

At the time of writing this blog post, I'm thinking and planning my future content and what I want to do differently.

The important thing with real estate content for social media and the web is to just get started, but consider planning out what you want to put out there for the next month with the help of a professional real estate copywriter!
